Perfume Review: Elixir Midnight Poison, Dior

(English version)

Since the release of the Poison family by Dior (Midnight Poison, Hypnotic Poison e Pure Poison), the brand still wishes to "poison" the perfume counters with sensual fragrance on the skins of beautiful and seductive women. In order to reach it, the master perfumer François Demachy contributed to Dior and in the last year the market met the three elixirs with the elegance of a fatal spray, a vintage atomizer (style Prada for women) which is part of the packaging.

An elixir, in the perfumery, is a nomenclature given to some flankers of a perfume in which is added notes, normally sweeter and sensual. In most of elixirs versions, the perfume tend to be denser losing some fresh chords of the original version, moreover the advertisement approach and/or the own name Elixir "proclaims" to consumers' ears a magical meaning, in an oniric manner, a fragrant potion which is able to bewitch poor human kinds, seduce them too far or a type of timeless cure through the smell, a surrender to other life when sniffing an elixir which will eternalize in the olfactive memory, the bottle of perfume that belongs to the endless life.

Among the Dior elixirs, the fragrant poison of the day is Elixir Midnight Poison which, in this version, prevails with a noticeable note of patchouli and brings new notes , the caramel and the vanilla. The concept is the same: the modern Cinderella of sparkling eyes as Eva Green's eyes, the fragrance pub. Eva, always gorgeous, embodies the seductive lady who is powerful as the night after midnight. A beauty which is kept reflecting on the dark blue bottle.

Basically, the elixir gains vanilla notes and, mainly, an "ambery" patchouli, but it loses the olfactory characteristic of the fresh and light bergamot that, in the sillage of the original version gives a sinuosity to the fragrance development as the Cinderella path, I mean, the fragrance starts with the patchoulian pungency, a phenomenal and attractive opening and little by little fades into a delicate stability, it is like to imagine a Cinderella who disappears as soon as the hours of an new day are closer. In the elixir, unfortunately, the balanced nuances between the hot and the fresh, the dark and the light are lost. The perfume presents itself a load of sweet notes which make its odour performance stable and, finally, the sillage is plan as the rest of a lady after drinking the poison of the night.

I am not surprised with the result of this release because most of elixirs have not brought any new; they are an ilusion such as a magie that is done in the front of the consumer. They get the imaginative idea that a perfume has a secret formulation, an enchantment that worths to live, however under the point of view related to the complexity of perfume development, 99% of elixirs are homogeneous on skin, I mean, it is applied the perfume and what is smelt is a sweetened liquid which let the delicateness of some notes in the original version skip, then what happens with the bergamot of Midnight Poison is the same that happens with the orange blossom of Armani Code Women, they disappear in the midnight seduction that is coming.

Particularly I think that the original fragrance is much better, however if you are an enthusiast of this line, buy it if you wish to live the "fragrant" Cinderella effect, it is like to make an analogy with those effects provoked by some miraculous creams that "paralyse" the skin. In the case of this fragrance, the Cinderella effect is that the perfume will be paralysed on your skin only with one or two notes, the tower clock will stop and everything that you will smell in the dark blue night of Midnight Poison is named patchouli and vanilla, both will be in your gourd and also in your surrey.
