Perfume Review: Dior Addict, Dior

Part of 14 Unforgettable Scents, Memorable Fragrant Writings Series. Portuguese version, click here

Dior Addict, Dior

Few fragrances are able to provoke images so intriguing and intoxicating as Dior Addict, a perfume that may be considered a nocturnal "modern classic" to praise the lust and pervesion.

The first contemplation of the fragrance is a start of sweet suffocating notes shaped by spicy chords which are present in all the olfactive journey with Dior Addict. The oriental floral features notes of mandarin and night queen flower, as main expressivity. They are covered by a spicy vanilla, almost bizarre and always together as a pair with the tonka bean that enhances the almondy scent of the perfume. The exotic scent is affected by the presence of mysore sandalwood, a note originated in India which addes the penetrating odour and the oriental lust to the perfume. An intoxicating blending that captures the skin, emanating scent for a powerful behavior filled by libidinal energy.

Blue Velvet, Veludo Azul.

Dior Addict is a hallucinating fragrance, able to take any woman from the conventional normality imposed by the society. A fragrance that is able to become her intoxicated by this Addict and transforms love and innocence into pleasure and lascivousness. The fragrance brings the woman full of fetish, owner of her own sexual strengths while the perfume covers her skin. The night queen flower shows Dior Addict's dark side, obscure, sinful. The toxic flower that poisons the perfume aura(and its sillage) to set free the vicious behavior Dior Addict can cause.

This noir image of the fragrance makes me face the dichotomy of the movie Blue velvet of David Linch; the opposition between attraction and aversion, innocence and experience, love and pervesion, normal desires and deviating desires, etc. The perfume awakes this antagonism from the moment that it sets free the exposed sensuality, the desire of breaking the status quo, of coming into the other's desire, of surrendering to the lust without fear. Dior Addict is a libertarian scent , a liberty fragrance from the boundaries that block the flesh, hungered for the touch and the will of pleasure.

This dichotomy is not only about the woman but also the man, hence Dior Addict is a velvet blue, completely suitable for be wearable between sexies and whose blue flacon is felt as an involving velvet. Touch it and let it touch you.
